Museum Expansion in 2014 & Beyond
Prior to the 2014 season opening (the museum is only open during the summer months), the museum foundation received Dutch government funding. This enabled significant updates and the documentation center became interactive. A third building was added with a reception area and a gathering space.
The original museum exhibits no longer hang in their original form, but the updated electronic displays, magnificent ship’s replica and dramatic photos of Gerrit & Jannetje Eenigenburg and their story are striking.
In 2019, another structure known in Dutch as a “kapschuur” was added in the garden which provides a classroom for children’s activities and an outdoor terrace for socializing. Today’s museum is indeed a joy to behold and the family legacy lives on in the tiny village bearing our name.
